Advantages
A low carbon steel with a medium manganese content, 1018 has good case hardening properties and excellent machinability. Suitable for shafting and for other applications that do not require the greater strength of high carbon and alloy steels.

It belongs to the comprehensive mechanical properties of good steel, with very broad, mainly used to make the load of the larger small cross-section conditioning large normalizing and stress smaller parts, and of the request is not high intensity of surface quenching parts, such as the spindle, crank shaft, shaft, gear, worm, keys, pins, etc. Water quenching has a tendency to form cracks, and parts with complex shapes should be hardened in hot water or oil.
